ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION

As a supplier of crushed stone, of which the extraction of some of the earth’s most precious natural capital can impact upon biodiversity and ecosystems, Moradi Crushers takes significant measures to rehabilitate the areas in which we operate. Moradi has an EIA (Environmental Impact Agency) and EMP (Environmental Management Plan) in its Mining Leases as approved by the Ministry of Mining. One of the most significant ways that Moradi conserves the land is by storing the topsoil and overburden which are then used towards rehabilitation purposes after our mines have reached their LOM’s. By law, after operations cease, we have to bring back the environment as close to its original form as possible.

As a company, Moradi Crushers is cognizant of the effect that blasting can have on the species in the surrounding areas, along with the topography of the land. It is for this reason that conserving these natural mechanisms has always, and will always, be a top priority for Moradi Crushers.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Throughout the years that Moradi Crushers has been in operation, we have demonstrated a very proactive approach in consideration and accountability in the communities we operate in. We include and always strive to understand the community on issues of civic participation and environmental protection, helping to develop a strong culture of local self-help and social networks.

We have a duty to honour ethical values, while aiding sustainable community development. In terms of sustainability, we look at the triple bottom line to operate in ways that secure long term needs by avoiding socially detrimental and environmentally wasteful behaviour in the present.

While it is not possible to address every social concern in the communities, when choosing what specific social issues to address, we focus on issues that intersect with our business interests to ensure an integrative strategy. This includes but is not limited to employing and training members of the community as part of our staff. It is also imperative that Moradi engages in charitable actions for the communities, such as repairing neighbouring schools and developing roads to name a few.

One of the ways Moradi helps the community and their workers is through the employee wellness program. Under this umbrella, Moradi developed a greenhouse. Employees were educated on the importance of eating balanced diets and the importance of good nutrition for children in school, and more importantly, how critical good nutrition is in a child’s first 1000 days.

We believe that for Corporate Social Responsibility to have the best chance of long term growth, corporate-community relationships should be based upon mutual benefit and respect.

Coronavirus Impact Alleviation:

From the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Moradi Crushers has been committed to ensuring the safety of not only our employees, but the community at large. Moradi embarked on a health & safety campaign to educate the staff on all the ways to safeguard themselves against Covid-19.

In addition to that, Moradi has found it imperative to maintain an ongoing agreement with health facilities near our plants across the country, in order to service our employees should they suspect to be afflicted with covid related symptoms.

A nourished community is a thriving one. Lesotho’s remote communities were hit hardest by the pandemic. With this in mind, Moradi assumed the role of providing aid by means of donating staple, non-perishable foods to the communities of Morija and Peka. The initiative took place over two days in both those locations and the company was met with gratitude from the locals.
